BLACK CYCLONE
starring Rex, the King of the Wild Horses
MOTION PICTURE CLASSIC
August, 1925
I want to hail Hal Roach's presentation of that remarkable horse, Rex (remember him in "The King of the Wild Horses?) in "Black Cyclone" (Pathé). Roach gets more spontaneous acting out of his equine cast than most directors get out of a squad of humans.
The only thing I have against "The Black Cyclone" is that it is cast in the general movie mold. Rex loves a beautiful horse, the Lady, who is pursued by the villain, the Killer. He triumphs like the hero of every other film - and gets the Lady. There is a slight story of some humans in the "Black Cyclone," but it hardly counts. The magnificent panoramas of the West, and the galloping principals with their fine animal abandon, make this production really unique.
